Dobromir Petkov tells the Alan T. the CEO of APT Pro Gear,...... I am from Bulgaria comming from the Eastern Block School of weight lifting, I am also a medical doctor (MD) and  I have great love for the heavy lifting and for my family. Of course  I AM A GREAT FAN OF ALL of APT Pro Gears COOL PRODUCTS AND I WILL USE THEM UNTIL THE END OF MY LIFTING CAREER,WHICH I HOPE WILL COME TOGETHER WITH THE END OF MY LIFE!

I started training weight lifting sports at age of 14 somewhere around 1983,weighing just 151.8 lb at height 6 feet.As a newborn baby in my first 6 months of life I literally almost died 3 times.I grew very skinny kid,my female cousin at the time used to wrestle me and win every time.At age of 10 I was diagnosed with kipho-scoliosis(pathologic curving of the spine).I was extremely ungifted for all kinds of sports, long distance running used to kill me every time I had to do it in gym classes, team sports I hated a lot, because from early age I learned, that if you want to do something do not count on anybody to do it for you (hated to depend on anybody). In the college that was called English Language School,I started reading bodybuilding and power lifting magazines and was inspired by this spirit of this everlasting pursuit for extreme strength.Started lifting then and never, ever stopped. For the first three years there was almost no change, but this did not discouraged me,just the opposite.I started practicing yoga(the mental part of it) and gradually thought myself to start loving the process of training and not expecting the results, they would probably come some day!For some time I was into martial arts,dzu-do and karate,I did not become great fighter, but they thought me to focus all my strength in one direction for a single moment. And the results started to come, even though much slower than with everyone at my age.For 2 long years I joined the army, where I did not become more intelligent, but for sure wiser the Medical University of Sofia,Bulgaria where I started my medical studies in 1989,I learned a lot about the human body, physiology, anatomy, biochemistry and various pathologies.I was telling the other students, that I am studying medicine for the sake of lifting and they were laughing at me,saying 'This is such a waist of time ,effort and intelligence. At that time I started to visit and train in the Gym of the National Sports Academy of Sofia,Bulgaria. There I met my future teacher not only in the lifting sports, but in life in general. This is Prof.Dr.Pavel Dobrev,he is professor in hygiene and physiology of weight lifting.I will send a picture of him, too. There I started lifting seriously, according to all sports-scientific achievements of the former Eastern Block and met serious athletes and people ,who influenced my life and destiny forever.Once three weight lifters from our Olympic Weight lifting team, made me squat for 100 repetitions, without racking the bar, stripping the weight every 5-7 reps.As I finished ,I almost fainted, but I was accepted in their pack of wolves.I started doing serious research with Prof.Pavel Dobrev, over the influence of weight training on the process of aging. We both took part, not only like objects, but also like a subjects in this study.I had people with osteoporosis,gonarthrosis,muscle-skeletal,cardio-vascular and respiratory diseases. There are many stories among the participants of the study of miraculous recoveries, performed by me and the Professor,of people scratched by the official medicine.I was taking my time to study the techniques of training and performance of various athletes. And figured out that the key for extreme lifting is in the human brain and not so much the muscles(at least not in their size).I was watching 160 lb weight lifters who were snatching weight that was 3-4 times their own body weight.I was weighing already 200 lb and could squat 572 lb for ten repetitions(but to the floor),weight lifting style(which in North America is called bodybuilding squat). After my graduation the Medical University in 1995,I became a military physician and had to adapt to the life in the army again, from there I can shoot various systems of weapons and survive almost anywhere. After a year I started as a GP in one of the suburbs of the Bulgarian capital-Sofia and worked there since my legal immigration in Canada in 2003.In my back yard I constructed my own gym, half indoors, half under the sky.During these years there were times, that I squatted or dead lifted in -10'C in a snow storm or under the burning sun in the summer with +35'C.This made me unbreakable, both physically and mentally. The skinny kid with kypho-scoliosis had been gone for ever.Instead, there was a MD who was lifting 1700 lb car-dead lift for three reps.
Since I came in Canada,I worked various jobs-I was a bouncer in Montreal's,most well known Irish Pub-'Sir Winston Churchill Pub' on Crescent street. Now I am working as a personal trainer in West-End Gym in Montreal(all the pictures are from there). Please, could you just mention on my page the name of the gym,The owner let us do all these crazy lifts, because he is a true lifter at heart and other gyms kicked us out.I am also working as a strength an conditioning coach for the kids in Loyola High school in Montreal.I have a 17 years kid who partially dead lifted 660 lb and benched 341 lb.,all natural (I am a doctor after all and if somebody trains with me,I make sure he/she is not destroying his/her health).I am in process of obtaining my medical license to practice in Canada, but I do not really want to practice medicine any more.I am going for PhD at McGill University in Montreal and this makes me happy, that I have what I studied for-medicine for the lifting. My wife and my son are 100% backing me up and even though we still do not have the standard of life,we had in Bulgaria we are just happy, that we are in North America and even the fact, that I am appearing in a site for really strong men.The pictures are from six months ago,my body weight then was 260 lb.I have diabetes,I got diagnosed by my colleagues just before arriving in Canada. This is the reason why,I can not compete,I have great days, when I can put the World on my back and squat with it,but I have other days, that 220 lb bar feels very, very heavy...At least I can teach others what I know and can not use it for my own good.
