Kerry Louque and Andy Guidry, powerlifters at St. Charles Catholic High School, recently competed at the state powerlifting championship where they qualified for nationals in Killeen, Texas on April 1-3 2005.

Kerry Louque and Andy Guidry, High School Powerlifters

Andy is a junior at St. Charles Catholic High School in LaPlace, Louisiana. He was the first incoming freshman to ever make the 1000 lb. club at his school. Andy is an honor student and a 3 year starter on the football team as well as a member of the powerlifting team. As a sophmore he took first place in the 275 lb. weight class in AAA at the state powerlifting meet. As a junior he broke the Division 1 Southeast squat record, placed 5th overall at state and 1st in AAA, and qualified for nationals. He currently holds the squat record at St. Charles and is just 5 lbs. shy of being the only person at his school to break 1500 lbs. He currently lifts with no straps or specialty equipment, just natural strength and has had no formal training. He hopes to compete this summer at the AAU Jr. Olympics. Although he has another year of high school - Andy hopes to attend a university with an established powerlifting team to further his abilities. Both Andy and Kerry are dedicated to the sport of powerlifting. These boys lift at 6:00 a.m. 3 days a week during summer vacation as well as all holidays throughout the school year. Although a tough sport, Andy and Kerry both enjoy lifting and hope to do well at nationals.
Kerry is a senior at St. Charles Catholic High School and started competing in powerlifting in his sophomore year where he competed in the Louisiana South Regional Meet in the 220# weight class. In his junior year, Kerry competed in the Louisiana South Regional Meet and qualified for the Louisiana State Championships where he placed 13th overall and 4th in Division 3A. In 2005 as a senior, Kerry placed 4th overall and 1st in Division 3A in Louisiana South Regional Meet and again qualified for the Louisiana State Championships. While at the state championships, he and Andy decided to try and qualify for the High School National Championships. They both Kerry and Andy were successful in qualifying for the High School National Championships. Kerry is a 2-year starter on the football team as well as a member of the powerlifting team. Kerry has 3.33 GPA and will attend college in the fall at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he will major in Chemical Engineering and join the powerlifting team. He currently lifts with no straps or specialty equipment, just natural strength and has had no formal training.
