For 19 year old Jay Bednar, the journey has begun. High school came and went, weight training for athletics no longer fueled the fire inside this 200 pound rising star. Boasting a 600 pound raw squat and a 340 bench press, Bednar had paid his dues. However, at 5'9", Jay was considered "undersized" by major Div.1 college football scouts and was overlooked despite his 1st Team All-Ohio honors as a linebacker. After one year of collegiate football, Jay decided to step away from the game he loved and pursue something that has been burning deep inside him from the first time he entered the gym at 13 years old...competitive Bodybuilding.
A former WNPF Teenage National Powerlifting Champion, Jay hit the gym with an intensity like none other. His relentless work ethic and uncompromised commitment began to chisel the man that would plan to take the world by storm. After 17 weeks of dieting, Jay entered his first competitive action as he stepped onstage at the NPC Julie Palmer's Ultimate Bodybuilding Fitness & Figure Championships held in Toledo, Ohio on June 3rd, 2006. In typical Bednar fashion, Jay chose not to enter the novice class and went straight to the Men's Open Heavyweight class to see where he stood against the big boys. Weighing in at an even 200 pounds (just 2 pounds over the light heavyweight cut-off point), Jay held his own claiming a third place finish. The placing also qualified him for the NPC Teen National Bodybuilding Championships to be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on July 26th 2006. With 7 weeks to go until Nationals, this workhorse is a serious to the Teen National Champion title in only his second competition. You can expect to see great things to come from Jay in the future.
