THE SHOW OF STRENGTH ULTIMATE TEEN CHALLENGE COMES TO PITTSBURGH TO FIND THE BEST FITNESS CONDITIONED STUDENT BODIES IN THE NORTH EAST!
Pittsburgh's own Kurt Angle, WWE Super Star and Olympics Gold Medalist with Dave Hawk, former Mr. USA and Mr. World, join forces with the KCE Pittsburgh Sports & Fitness Festival to hold the first "Pennsylvania Show of Strength Ultimate Teen and Team Challenge" at the Monroeville Expo Mart on May 27-28, 2005. The Teen Challenge pits teams of teens from local high schools in fun strength fitness events ranging from everyday exercises like the bench press to such unique challenges as the wheel barrel walk and truck push. This thrilling competition has teens cheering their peers' battling it out in fun events.
This year, organizers of the PA Show of Strength Ultimate Teen Challenge expect a large turnout for both males and females determine to find out who's the strongest and most conditioned in the land. The events are challenging but scaled to each individual's abilities, so any teen of any size can participate.
Hawk said "At the 2003 Ultimate Teen Challenge Nationals in Atlanta I enjoyed watching Collins Hills High School win the overall with a team of two young ladies and two young men. The 4th place winning team was actually four young ladies, so watch out guys. The events are great to really fun to watch."
To date we have raised over $5000 dollars in total prize winnings available for the 1st- 5th place teen teams. Prize money's to winners are donations to help support the teams youth programs (i.e. Cheerleading, Football, Soccer, Wrestling, Baseball. La Cross and etc.).
Angle said "we hope to raise even more moneys to support more of our local youth fitness programs through this great fitness event."
Each participating school, club, youth group, or origination will need to field at least one team of four (4) teen athletes. Student teams will battle it out in five unique fitness challenges; some of the fitness challenges will take place simultaneously.
The following are descriptions of each *event.
Tire Relay - Each student in a line of 4 will alternate one after the other flipping a standard tractor tire in a straight line down the course until all students have completed the course. The fastest times wins.
Bench Press - Four team members will each bench 70% of his or her own body weight for as many repetitions as possible during the time allotted. Each team member will be given 1 minute to press as many reps as possible. Then next student will go and so on. Each team is given a total of 6 minutes to build up their scores. The team with the highest total repetitions wins.
Vehicle Push - Two students, two times will push a HUMMER in a straight line down the course until the front of the vehicle crosses the finish line. The fastest times in the two runs wins.
Wheel Barrel Walk or Farmers Walk - Four students will relay a heavy wheel barrel or weighted hand implements around the course testing each students grip strength, agility, upper back and leg strength, as well as mental toughness. Fastest times or longest distance wins.
The Sled Pull: Two students from each team will pull hand over hand as fast a possible a weighted sled with his or her own body weight from the starting line to the finish line. The fastest times in total win.
The team with the best total score in the combination of event will win the competition.
These types of events not only thoroughly challenge the athleticism of contestants, but they make for exciting and entertaining viewing for spectators and fellow contestants. The adrenaline will be pumping!
Angle, a former Olympic Gold Medalist and Hawk one of the Worlds Best Professional Trainer with NASCAR and GNC will be on hand to guide the competitions and inspire young people to live the healthy fitness lifestyle. Both will be available to answer questions, share knowledge on goal setting and many other aspects of fitness.
HOW TO SIGN UP
Registration for your team of four (4), entries must be at least 13 to19 years of age by May 26th, 2005, in order to be eligible to participate. A copy of a birth certificates or license will be needed at the check in the day of the event to verify ages.
A portion of the proceeds will support Kurt Angle's local Pittsburgh Charity.
