100% RAW, 2008 National Bench Press, Deadlift and Strict Curl
June 28, 2008
Meet Directors were; Paul Bossi and Jim Roberts
I want to thank all who was involved in this meet. There was great lifting, judging and support provided by many.
The lifters; you ALL are GREAT!!! I had recruited some of the best referees in Maryland and you all earned each of your lifts. And the support you provided to each other along with Paul and I in volunteering to help is inspiring. It is the spirit you bring to each meet sanctioned by 100% RAW which sets it apart from all others! I can't get enough!!!
Referees; Matt Gary, Brian Washington and Mike Sichleman are steeped in powerlifting. They are great friends and powerlifting people in the truest sense of the word. Here in Maryland, we have a small, but tight knit group who supports each other in incredible ways. And these three are some of our best referees and lifters.
And I want to send great thanks to Wayne Claypatch (NY State chair). While this great lifter rehabilitates from surgery, he has found ways to give back to the sport and the sport has benefited in big ways. He has an attention to detail which I admire. I recently spent a day at a meet in NY which he had. I can't wait to have the opportunity to return again. Great folks!!! And it appears Hunter is following in his father's foot steps.
John Shifflett; He takes on everything. VA state chair, meet director, referee and drug testing. All while preparing to compete!!! I'm amazed!!! Thanks John for saying the opening prayer and helping with the set-up as well.
Dan Corridean and Kevin Prosser; When it was time for Dan to warm-up for the bench, Kevin remained on the platform performing the duties of spot-loading. I took over from Dan and while I felt worn-out a short time after, Kevin was still going strong! Spot loading is one of those little noticed jobs performed at meets. That is until you do it yourself or a lifter gets into some trouble. Thanks to both of you!!!
Kevin and Dan will host the '08 World Championships later this year in Hagerstown. I encourage all to consider being at that meet.
Our announcer extraodinar, John "Mogie" Mogavero; Now I'm going to give all a bit of a history lesson; when I took over as USPF state chair in 1998, John had been state chair for 16 years! Two years prior to him being elected state chair, he served in other capacities in the Maryland State Powerlifting Association. John is a Cat II IPF referee and has taught many of the current referees here in Maryland how to judge lifts. John is indispensable as both an official and leader.
APT; Alan is a great friend to all in strength sport. He especially has been supportive of 100% RAW. When I contacted him about sending me another banner, he was very generous in sending gift certificates too! If your not on his mailing list, I encourage you to get on it.
Critical Bench; Mike had contacted me early last week. It dawned on me that I hadn't said much to him about the meet. I asked if he could send a banner. He not only sent the banner, but provided the shakers that was handed out after the rules briefing. And, he sent them 2nd day UPS at a premium cost to him to make sure they got to me on time. I want to thank Mike and apologise at the same time.
Body Building.com; I'm not sure who Paul deals with here, but they produced the t-shirts. Thanks!!!
Paul and Theresa; What can I say??? Both work tirelessly to ensure that each meet is the best it can be. Both came up early to help set-up and then stayed until everything was moved out and the venue was cleaned. On top of that, tolerated my mood swings and my peculiar way of getting things done.
Considering the cost of travel, I was very gratefull to see everyone who could make it. And if I missed naming anyone by name, please accept my apology.
Once again, thanks to ALL!
I also want to thank Carl Seeker. He did an EXCELLENT job on the awards.
